How to Say Zero in Spanish

If you want to say “zero” in Spanish you would use “el cero”. It’s part of the 0-10 sequence you may already know: cero, uno, dos, tres, cuatro, cinco, seis, siete, ocho, nueve, diez. The numbers in Spanish follow a pattern, just like in English.

Learning Spanish numbers may come more naturally than you think, especially if you already speak another major European language. Because English, Italian and French all have deep roots in Latin, these languages all share thousands of words with contemporary Spanish. These shared words are called cognates and have significant similarities in spelling and/or pronunciation. That’s why you’ll notice that there are many English words and phrases like the word “family” that look almost identical and sound remarkably similar in French (famille), Italian (famiglia), and Spanish (familia).

Many new learners also find that Spanish has a straightforward pronunciation system, as well as very few irregularities in word pronunciation. Plus, the basic alphabet is an almost perfect match to the English one and those of other western European languages. There are only three additional letters you’ll want to learn: ch (chay), ñ (eñe), and ll (elle).

Rosetta Stone’s Dynamic Immersion® methodology teaches you the language by throwing you in. It may be hard sometimes, but that’s what makes it effective at preparing you to use your new language throughout everyday life. So it’s not just about the features, but what you’re able to do because of them. It helps you get ready to handle situations with confidence.
