Portuguese is the ninth most powerful language in the world, nicely situated among other economic powerhouses like German and Japanese. Portuguese is spoken across the world, and is the second-most spoken Romance language. It is an official language of Portugal, and also Brazil, Mozambique, Angola, Cape Verde, the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, São Tomé and Príncipe, East Timor, Equatorial Guinea, and Macau (China).
English speakers learning Portuguese will find that it is not as difficult to learn as it sounds. The Portuguese grammar and sentence structures are simplified compared to English. And many Portuguese language learners find that the Portuguese accent is easier to master than a Spanish accent. English and Portuguese both share deep Latin roots. Because of that, you’ll find that many words sound similar to English and have the same meaning—also called cognates. These cognates may give you an advantage when it comes to speaking Portuguese quickly and confidently.
Learn Portuguese to be part of the conversation with over 220 million native speakers across the globe. From Portugal to Brazil to Mozambique, learning Portuguese will expand your world more broadly in business and in culture.
Portuguese is relatively quick to pick up and begin speaking. Many native English speakers make the pleasant discovery that learning Portuguese is not as difficult as they might have initially thought it would be. And comprehending it gives you a huge advantage in understanding other Romance languages like French, Italian, and Spanish. Portuguese grammar and sentence structures are actually less complex than their counterparts in the English language.

I've been using Rosetta Stone for years to gain basic competency in multiple languages including German, French, Italian, and recently Chinese and Russian. Starts with the very basics teaching basic vocabulary and grammar without any memorization. I've even impressed some locals in my travels with pronunciation and fluency. This is an excellent place to start if interested in starting to learn a new language or brushing up on one learned years ago.-Gladys
I am trying out Rosetta Stone, to see if it will help out with the correct grammar and conversation (as well as learning how to read and write the language). Within a week, I can already master the sentence structure and start learning the grammar with particles. The local community is so excited to see that I am starting to learn their language. Out of all the language learning tools out there, I 100% recommend Rosetta Stone!-Sy
I've tried other language learning software but Rosetta Stone is much more challenging and professional. I don't have to worry about earning points and following the leader board. I'm trying out the ninety day trial to learn some Russian and I will pay for the privilege once I reach the end of the trial.-Jim
