Dialects are more than just accents. They are made up of a combination of accents, vocabulary, and grammar.
As an example, consider this exchange in English.
Both of these expressions are the English language and mean the same thing. However, the vocabulary and grammar are very distinct.
Italian is one of the five romance languages. There are about 69 million native Italian speakers and about another 16 million speakers who have learned it as a second language, putting you in good company if you choose to learn Italian .
Each region has its own unique dialect, but what is known as “Standard Italian” today stems from the Tuscany region. When Italy was unified in 1861, the Tuscan dialect was made the official language of Italy.
While Italian is spoken in many countries across the globe, Italian is considered an official language in Italy, Switzerland, San Marino, Vatican City and some parts of Croatia and Slovenia.

Research suggests that your ability to learn a language is really just a matter of consistency in your practice—building confidence through speaking and contextualizing your learning. And Rosetta Stone makes fitting learning into your schedule convenient and practical. Rosetta Stone also makes sure that your pronunciation of the Italian language is accurate. Using our patented TruAccent™ speech recognition engine , your voice will be compared to that of native speakers, and real-time feedback will be given to make corrections. Armed with those corrections, you can then practice until your mouth is able to readily shape the sounds that make up the language. TruAccent is also adjustable, which allows you to fine-tune your accent, and is among the most powerful tools for helping you learn and speak Italian.
Surround yourself with Italian whenever, wherever with the Rosetta Stone app .
Download a unit and knock it out on the train or a flight. Select a 5-10 minute lesson and sneak it in while you wait in line or for your ride to show up. And explore dynamic features, like Seek and Speak, where you can point at an object in the real world and get a translation .
The best part? You don’t have to choose between app or desktop. Both come with your subscription and sync, so you can switch between devices seamlessly.
I've been using Rosetta Stone for years to gain basic competency in multiple languages including German, French, Italian, and recently Chinese and Russian. Starts with the very basics teaching basic vocabulary and grammar without any memorization. I've even impressed some locals in my travels with pronunciation and fluency. This is an excellent place to start if interested in starting to learn a new language or brushing up on one learned years ago.-Gladys
I am trying out Rosetta Stone, to see if it will help out with the correct grammar and conversation (as well as learning how to read and write the language). Within a week, I can already master the sentence structure and start learning the grammar with particles. The local community is so excited to see that I am starting to learn their language. Out of all the language learning tools out there, I 100% recommend Rosetta Stone!-Sy
I've tried other language learning software but Rosetta Stone is much more challenging and professional. I don't have to worry about earning points and following the leader board. I'm trying out the ninety day trial to learn some Russian and I will pay for the privilege once I reach the end of the trial.-Jim
