Way to Say Got in Spanish

How to Say Got in Spanish

If you want to say “got” in Spanish—meaning to obtain something—you would use the verb “conseguir”. Here’s how it’s conjugated:

  • Yo conseguí = I got
  • Tú conseguiste = You got
  • Él/ella/Ud consiguió = He/she got
  • Nosotros conseguimos = We got
  • Vosotros conseguisteis = You all got
  • Ellos/ellas/Uds consiguieron = They got

In conversation, you’ll also hear locals use other verbs that are dependent on the context. For example, many use the verb “obtener” interchangeably. If you are referring to purchasing something, you’d use “comprar”, or if you received something, you would use “recibir”.

As complicated as Spanish can be at the start, remember that you don’t have to tackle all the options at once. Even with a word like “got”, getting a handle on the verb “conseguir” is going to work well in most situations.

Rosetta Stone’s Dynamic Immersion® methodology teaches you how to speak the language, not just memorize words. What makes it so effective is that we prepare you to use your new language in your everyday life. So it’s not just about the features, but what you’re able to do because of them. That way, you’ll be ready to handle any and all situations with ease and confidence.

Learn Spanish Words and Phrases

Many people pursue learning Spanish because they find themselves frequently encountering the language. After all, Spanish pops up often in movies, popular music, and TV shows. Other people decide to learn Spanish based on their plans to vacation, work, or volunteer in any of the 20 countries around the world where Spanish is the official language. Whatever your reason, you can get off to a great start by first learning how to pronounce some very basic words and phrases. It is an important step to understand and be understood by any of the 437 million people around the world who speak Spanish.

Sometimes, new learners get sidetracked trying to memorize lengthy lists of Spanish vocabulary words and phrases. This time-consuming effort can lead to the undesired outcome of having little ability to participate in real-world Spanish conversation. That’s why it’s strongly advised that new Spanish language learners focus first on understanding and pronouncing basic words and phrases. This smart and practical approach to learning Spanish will help you become a confident and comfortable Spanish speaker.

Of note, Spanish does have some pronunciation distinctions that can make it a challenge for new learners. As one example, the letter r is pronounced differently and takes some practice for most new learners. This distinct sound is formed by tapping the tip of the tongue on the roof of the mouth, about a third of the way back in the mouth. Some Spanish language experts suggest new learners practice making the “tt” sound, as it sounds in the English word butter.

Developing the skills to accurately pronounce Spanish requires immediate feedback on your pronunciation efforts. Rosetta Stone helps you dial in your pronunciation with our TruAccent™ speech-recognition engine. TruAccent compares your voice to native and non-native speakers—in real-time—so you get the feedback you need for the most accurate pronunciation. It’s also adjustable, which allows you to tweak your accent as needed. TruAccent is a powerful tool for helping you learn and speak the Spanish language.

After you have developed the ability to correctly pronounce basic Spanish words and short phrases, you can move onto learning the longer phrases that make up much of real-world conversation. Rosetta Stone’s digestible, 10-minute language lessons are designed to lead you along your journey to learn Spanish. First, you’ll first focus on learning basic words and phrases, then you’ll move onto learning longer phrases, and then towards learning to understand and speak Spanish with confidence.

I've been using Rosetta Stone for years to gain basic competency in multiple languages including German, French, Italian, and recently Chinese and Russian. Starts with the very basics teaching basic vocabulary and grammar without any memorization. I've even impressed some locals in my travels with pronunciation and fluency. This is an excellent place to start if interested in starting to learn a new language or brushing up on one learned years ago.

I am trying out Rosetta Stone, to see if it will help out with the correct grammar and conversation (as well as learning how to read and write the language). Within a week, I can already master the sentence structure and start learning the grammar with particles. The local community is so excited to see that I am starting to learn their language. Out of all the language learning tools out there, I 100% recommend Rosetta Stone!

I've tried other language learning software but Rosetta Stone is much more challenging and professional. I don't have to worry about earning points and following the leader board. I'm trying out the ninety day trial to learn some Russian and I will pay for the privilege once I reach the end of the trial.
