English Words

Although standard Chinese touts the honor of being the language with the most native speakers in the world, English is the most used official language. It’s also the most widely spoken second language. Current estimates indicate about 20% of the Earth’s population speaks English as their main or second language. That’s about 1.5 billion people! So learning English puts you on a path to know the most valued language across the globe.

To be able to speak English confidently in conversation, you’ll need to get beyond vocabulary lists and memorization. Studying how to speak English in context, along with practicing correct pronunciation, is the best way to learn English, or any new language.

English is commonly renowned for its extensive number of words compared to many other world languages. The reason for this stems from the fact that English was originally a Germanic language, sharing much of its grammar and vocabulary with German and Dutch, and also influenced by both French and Latin. A large number of words from those languages entered English which has a vocabulary larger than German, Dutch, or the members of the Romance languages.

The good news is that by learning the 1,000 most common English words , you will be able to comprehend close to 88% of English in conversation. This isn’t as daunting as it sounds. Take a peek at the Top 10 most common English words:

Research suggests that your ability to learn a language is mostly a matter of practice, building confidence through speaking, and contextualizing your learning, which is exactly how Rosetta Stone's Dynamic Immersion® methodology works. The most important components of learning a new language are practice and pronunciation. Our brief, 10 minute lessons allow you to fit practice easily in your daily life. In order to develop the skills to accurately pronounce English words , you will require immediate feedback on your pronunciation efforts. With Rosetta Stone’s TruAccent™ speech-recognition engine, your voice will be compared to native speakers. You will receive real-time feedback allowing you to adjust and fine-tune your accent on the spot. TruAccent is a powerful tool for helping you learn and speak the English language.

I've been using Rosetta Stone for years to gain basic competency in multiple languages including German, French, Italian, and recently Chinese and Russian. Starts with the very basics teaching basic vocabulary and grammar without any memorization. I've even impressed some locals in my travels with pronunciation and fluency. This is an excellent place to start if interested in starting to learn a new language or brushing up on one learned years ago.

I am trying out Rosetta Stone, to see if it will help out with the correct grammar and conversation (as well as learning how to read and write the language). Within a week, I can already master the sentence structure and start learning the grammar with particles. The local community is so excited to see that I am starting to learn their language. Out of all the language learning tools out there, I 100% recommend Rosetta Stone!

I've tried other language learning software but Rosetta Stone is much more challenging and professional. I don't have to worry about earning points and following the leader board. I'm trying out the ninety day trial to learn some Russian and I will pay for the privilege once I reach the end of the trial.
