HOW TO SAY MONTHS IN SPANISH

If you want to say the word “months” in Spanish, you would say “meses” or “los meses.” In the singular, the word “month” would be “mes” or “el mes.” Need the names of the individual months? Starting with January, they go as follows: enero, febrero, marzo, abril, mayo, junio, julio, agosto, septiembre, octubre, noviembre, diciembre.

Many of the Spanish words for months, days, and time probably sound pretty similar to the words you already use––especially for those who speak languages like English, French, or Italian. When languages have a similar origin, they often share words and phrases that are directly related to one another (cognates) or have significant letters or sounds in common. While English is technically a Germanic language, it has been influenced by Latin and other related languages. That’s why you’ll find English words like “future” that sound remarkably similar in French (futur), Italian (futuro), and Spanish (futuro). Spanish also has a clear system of pronunciation with few irregularities. Plus, the Spanish alphabet is made up of the 26 letters you already know and only three extras you’ll need to learn: ch (chay), ll (elle), and ñ (eñe).

Using Rosetta Stone’s Dynamic Immersion® methodology, you’ll learn the language—not just the words. What makes it so effective is that we prepare you to use your new language in your everyday life. LEARN SPANISH WORDS AND PHRASES

Some embark on the journey to learn Spanish because they so often encounter the language in their everyday lives. After all, Spanish is frequently heard in our popular music, TV shows, and movies. Other people make the personal decision to learn Spanish due to plans to vacation, work, or volunteer in one of the 20 countries around the globe where Spanish is the official language.

No matter what your reason for learning Spanish, you can get off to a strong start by focusing first on the pronunciation of some very basic words and phrases. Learning commonly-used Spanish words and phrases is a very important first step when it comes to comfortably understanding and confidently conversing with any of the estimated 437 million people around the globe who speak Spanish.

Some beginning Spanish learners get bogged down trying to memorize lengthy lists of Spanish vocabulary words and phrases. This time-consuming and boring approach can lead to the unfortunate outcome of having little ability to understand or be understood in everyday Spanish conversation. That’s why it’s so important that new Spanish language learners develop the skill to understand and accurately pronounce basic words and phrases. This practical approach to learning the language will help you to become confident and comfortable conversing in Spanish with the locals.

It’s important to note that Spanish does have some pronunciation distinctions that can make it a challenge for language learners. As one example, the letter r is pronounced differently and takes some practice for most new learners. This distinct sound is formed by tapping the tip of the tongue on the roof of the mouth, about a third of the way back in the mouth. Some Spanish language experts suggest new Spanish learners practice making the “tt” sound, as it sounds in the English word butter.

Developing proper Spanish pronunciation will require that you receive accurate and immediate feedback on your efforts to speak Spanish. Precise and instant feedback will allow you to make any needed corrections to your Spanish pronunciation. Then, with the correct pronunciation, you’ll be able to practice until you can easily make the specific sounds of the spoken Spanish language.
