Finally, My Husband Can Stop Being A Translator! Ever since meeting my Uruguayan husband, I've wanted to learn Spanish so I could talk to my inlaws. Every time we visit, my husband spends the entire trip as a full-time translator, which is exhausting for him and frustrating for me. For five years, I tried to learn Spanish with books, audio programs, and everything else. I think I've tried every other program that's out there. My husband wrote out phrases and taped them to our kitchen cupboards for me to study, but I couldn't remember anything. We said we would have "Spanish Sundays" at our house to help me learn, but I knew so little of the language, I couldn't even begin to form a sentence! When we decided to travel to Uruguay for Christmas this year, I vowed to learn Spanish to surprise my inlaws and finally have real conversations with them. I didn't have time in my schedule to start my studies with earnest until the beginning of November, but here I am, just a month later (with still a month to go before we leave), and my husband and I have been able to implement our Spanish Sundays and I'm speaking in Spanish every day. I have no doubt that I'll be at least halfway to fluency by the time we leave for our trip. I'm a true Rosetta Stone convert. The value you get with the TOTALe online course is unparalleled. They give you so many tools and ways to learn, I don't think you could use the tools and not learn. Sometimes you're learning before you even realize exactly what it is that they're teaching you. It's brilliant! The interactive part of the training is exceptional. The live tutors are really nice and extremely helpful. If you dedicate yourself to learning the language and using all of the many tools Rosetta Stone makes available to you, I honestly can't imagine that you wouldn't learn a new language. I couldn't be happier with my experience and how quickly I'm learning. This Christmas, I'll be speaking Spanish and will truly be able to get to know my Uruguayan family without my husband having to act as a full-time translator. I can't imagine a better gift.
