Overall, pretty good
Rosetta is great software. I took 3 years of Spanish in High School but never excelled. Level 1 has been able to get me to learn that basics of Portuguese. However, one obstacle to get over is that it will never show you the English Counterpart/Translation so in some cases you never get the full 100% translation, but you still get the idea. Overall, this is great software for learning on your own. After I master all of Level 1 I will continue on to Level 2 and 3.

New Learner
The product has been very helpful in learning vocabulary quickly. This is the second language I am learning. However, adverbs, pronouns, are not listed and therefore when looking at the picture you have to assume the adverb is the word shown...For example, in spanish, if I was going to ask the question ... "where is the dog?" I assume "donde" is where...I love the product and enjoy learning.

Good program, hard to understand sometimes.
I was very excited to receive Rosetta Stone and I quickly started the program. The program is amazing; after the first lesson I started playing the games and I was surprised to be thinking in Portuguese! After advancing a bit more, I started learning about "I", "you", "us", etc and I found it hard to fully understand. I had to go back and redo the lesson several times before I fully understood the concept. The program is easy for vocabulary, but conjugation is quite difficult, however it was hard for everyone while learning their first language, so I understand.

Not to Easy
I find it hard to follow because you never find out what the words really mean, and when it comes to I have, we have, they have it makes it hard to understand

2 months and learning quickly...
I purchased Portuguese (Brazil) level 1 because my mom is from Portugal and we make trips to visit my grandparents in Portugal every year or so. I know Brazilian Portuguese is slightly different from Continental, but she said they were close enough, so I gave RS a shot. I've had a lot of fun learning Portuguese using Rosetta Stone. I can pick up on words when my grandparents and mom are speaking on the phone. The immersion technique RS uses really works too. I notice this randomly through out the day when I begin thinking or wanting to respond to every day conversation in Portuguese. Also, the new RS Studio is a great feature to help reinforce lessons. Speaking to the Native Speakers in Studio is a challenging but rewarding experience. I am going to purchase levels 2 and 3 after I master level 1 and would definitely recommend RS to anyone who wants to learn a new language.

Amazing Gift!
I gave this great product as a gift to my husband. I am brazilian and he is american. Before, he could only speak english and always admired me for knowing two other languages besides of my native one; but now, he enjoys talking to my mom in portuguese and getting to know her even better than before.
I was actually thinking about giving a Rosetta Stone to my mom so she can learn english and be able to speak to her grandchildren =)

SO HELPFUL!
I had already used another CD set to begin learning Brazilian Portuguese, but once I bought the Rosetta Stone set, my learning took off! I have never learned more quickly or more easily! I love this software and would definitely recommend it for any level!

Best Investment I Have Made in Years
I can't express enough how much I have enjoyed learning Portuguese with your latest version of Rosetta Stone.
The program is so intuitive I feel like I am experiencing nearly effortless learning.
Rosetta Stone is so effective I was speaking to my Brazilian friends the very first week I used it! The best part is, thanks to the interactive speaking features, not only could my friends understand me, but they were impressed with my pronunciation and my accent.

Brazil is the goal, this is the way
I speak some Spanish and some Czech as well as my first language English. I have always dreamed of going to Brazil. I love the music. So, I was looking for an "easy" way to learn Portuguese. I completed level one and wow, it really was intuitive and quite easy. It's nice to know that Rosetta Stone is such a useful product. I think I can hear that samba beat already! Also, my husband has tried various ways to learn Spanish, without much success, and I plan to get him Rosetta Stone's Spanish soon. I know he will enjoy it.

Old Dog
It's hard to teach an old dog new tricks, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. But with Rosetta Stone even the most lazy, undisciplined, and stubborn pups can learn a new language. Good thing too because without some basic skills no kibble for you!

Mind changer
As a language teacher, I was initially skeptical about Rosetta Stone claim that one can learn a language without explicit grammatical foundations. I had to change my mind.
I found the audio-oral and the reading parts superb. Not only efficient, but making learning fun and addictive. As for the written exercises, due to the method's incompatibility with my computer keyboard layout, I found typing excessively slow and unpractical. In contrast with the rest it was not a pleasant experience.

It is easy if you speak spanish or any latin language but I think for people who speaks english should be very difficult to learn with this method.

Excellent
This is the first language learning program that has kept my attention and my interest. Its FUN, interesting and I am truly learning the Portuguese language and I am looking forward to speaking fluently at my own pace.

Invaluable purchase for growing family!
While living here in the states, my niece, Nicky, fell in love with Lee, who is from Brazil. They moved back to Brazil and were soon to be married. I knew it would be important for my sister and her son to learn Portuguese and needed to find the best program available. As a teacher, I inquired with a world language professor whose workshop I was attending. He told me that he himself had learned Japanese using your Rosetta Stone program and he highly recommended it. That was all I needed to hear. Of course, the real confirmation was when everyone visited Brazil and were so happy to have had Rosetta Stone to prepare them. Even Nicky, who is now living in Brazil, wanted to borrow the program to learn Portuguese better!

Good entry level program, tends to repeat very simple words over and over, voice recognition so-so, listening program too easy on alot of vocal sounds, would like to see more words used instead of the same simple ones repeated, would like to be able to pause or back up to last screen. the spelling program omits a Portugeuse vowel with an accent, so when they ask you to spell a certain word, you cannot.

Calling all investors
My expectations of Rosetta Stone software for Portuguese level 1 have been met and exceeded.
It is simply fun to use the software, it's like a game.
I am using my new skills in Portuguese to study annual reports and financial statements of publicly traded Brazilian companies, for the purpose of investing my money. I am also beginning to listen to quarterly conference calls in Portuguese.
I have gone further with the software and purchased level 2 and level 3 Portuguese.
I have also purchased the whole set for Latin American Spanish.
What is the return for investing in Rosetta Stone language software?
-More financial opportunities for those so inclined
-More job opportunities
-Greater social opportunities
-Greater educational opportunities to learn about other cultures, economies, government policies, foreign media, etc.
I realize that this is turning into a sales pitch, so be it. I love this software!

This Works!
I would like to direct others to try the Rosetta Stone teaching approach. My wife is Brazilian, so I use my Rosetta, Portuguese CD, and I have the luxury, of not only conversation support from the CD, but I also can then converse with my wife in Portuguese. The Rosetta Stone method gets you to precisely pronounce the word(s), and does not let you advance to the next word(s)until you get the accent correct. I would recommend this program to others;I have seen first hand, as evidenced by my conversations with my wife, that the program is on point!

Amazed
Dear Rosetta Stone,
I'm a first generation Brazilian-American who grew up in a Portuguese speaking household, and lived in Brazil for 18 years, more specifically Rio de Janeiro.
Also, I'm an engineer that owns a language translation company. So I'm in the business of getting translations done to perfection.
I purchased the Portuguese Level 1 course for my American girlfriend, so she could meet my family and friends over the New Year's Holiday, and be able to say a few words.
Of course I screened the course myself first to see if it would be worthwhile.
I was AMAZED! First of all by the Portuguese pronunciation from Rio, which is the most familiar in Brazil because of all the telenovelas and journalism broadcast from Rio.
Second, how logical and easy it was to follow.
I was excited to get my friend started.
Needless to say, she's a very busy business woman, and could only find the time to use it one hour at home, and a couple of hours between flights at the airport.
She actually did over half of the lessons, scoring between 90 and 100%. I couldn't believe my eyes how well she was getting the correct pronunciation, without any prior language lessons other than French in high school, over 30 years ago.
Of course she needed more training and reinforcement than that, but it was enough for her to make a good first impression with family and friends.
Since then, I've been recommending your program to my clients who wish to learn a new language, using my friend's case as encouragement.

Overall, not bad
Overall this was a very good product.
I bought it to prepare me for my study abroad in Brazil. I thought it would teach me to be able to have simple conversations with the locals... not what I expected.
They teach you colors, animals, days of the week, and months. All are very usefull but not to the extent I was hoping for.
Their methods on teaching you the information was EXCELLENT! If you are serious about really learning a language, Rosetta Stone is your professor.
Would I buy Rosetta Stone again? Most likely

BEST EVER!
This product is amazing! It is very detailed, and shows you in-depth instructions and pictures. I have already learned more with Rosetta Stone than taking two years of it in school!

Great Preparation
My wife and I are going to pick up my son in Brazil and in preparation for our trip, we decided to get ready with some basic skills to get us ready for a great trip to Sao Paulo and Rio. I speak fluent French and she speaks fluent Spanish and we have found that Portuguese is often a combination of both. The immersion techniques used in the Rosetta stone are as close to being in the country as you can get, without being there! Great stuff!

It's Fun!
I always thought learning languages was tedious work. I've taken classes both in high school and college settings. Rosetta Stone both taught me more in a shorter period, and I enjoyed it! I feared that the software package would sit collecting dust, but both my husband and I have used it frequently. Compared to classroom learning, this is easier, faster, and I actually WANT to take the lessons. I love the fact that there's no pressure or anyone judging or grading you. It's just you and your computer, having a good time, and seeing results.

Great for Kids
We bought the program for our children (ages 10 +12). They enjoy the interactive computer program and audio companion. They have learned everyday conversations and greetings in a very short period of time and they are really enjoying it! We are thrilled with the results.

Learn Portuguese even when very tired after work
I am really impressed with Rosetta Stone
Even for a poor student in learning languanges its a sure fire way to learn a foreign language QUICKLY. (mother tongue German, Fluent in English and some basic skills in French)
Compared to other language learning software that I used for French in the past, Rosetta Stone is miles ahead educating to understand and speak the foreign language even when tired after 11 hours of work.
I use it out here in Luanda / Angola where you need to be able to speak and understand Portuguese, it is expected. After 1-1/2 month of use of Level 1 of Rosetta stone the progress is real. I intend to buy the 2nd and 3rd levels since will be staying in total for 6 month in Luanda / Angola.
What is bad is that there is no Rosetta Stone Portuguese (Portugal) available.
Some words like a 'vaso sanitario' is foreign to locals in Luanda Angola, however the 'boys from Brazil' know that its a toilet.

Super Preperation for business trip to Brazil
I was scheduled for a business trip to Brazil. On a short notice I got an invitation from the U.S. Ambassador to Brazil to attend an international hotel conference in Recife. Even though we had simultan translation services...the gained confidence and understanding of a foreign language through the RosettaStone software was very helpful in the overall outcome of the conference.

Linguistically Challenged Overcome
Purchasing and learning Portuguese with Rosetta Stone is one of the best educational experiences I have ever had. The pictures and the repetition of the words are phrases are so well put together, I never got bored! the practice CD came with me in the car and It was easy as 1-2-3 to learn and become proficient in Portuguese. Thanks so much Rosetta Stone.
I am really looking forward to being able to purchase an English level 1,2 and 3 for my son with Down's syndrome. He will love it and it will help him so much!

Good program!
It is a very user friendly program. The format is laid out so that anyone can understand it regardless of their native language.
I only have the first level but I wish they had put more emphasis on things a tourist would use such as food, money, restroom, hotel, etc.

Just what I was looking for
Many years ago I had mastered Portuguese reasonably well and was able to converse with
the fellas I went to the Amazon with who spoke
no English. But I didn't speak it again for 15 years
and being 73 I found that I had lost it. But after
working with Rosetta Stone for a few weeks I was
surprised to see how quickly I regained my ability
and while it isn't what I want it to be I have no doubts that when I start on the next level it will be no time before I am speaking it again at least as well as before. Thanks Rosetta Stone. Your the

Satisfaction guarenteed
Portuguese is the second language product that I purchased from Rosetta Stone. I also have all three levels of Spanish.
I've visited Brazil for the second time and the first time I purchased another product, which I thought was sufficient until I purchased Rosetta Stone and the difference is uncomparable.
I've also purchased several other products for Spanish and again, Rosetta Stone has blown away the competition.
I've found that the other products does little to keep you interested, on the other hand Rosetta Stone makes you hungry for more. And since I use Spanish for work, I would recommend this product to any and everyone.

The only way to go!
I am really excited about the progress I am making in learning and re-learning some of the Portuguese I knew from when I lived in Portugal for a year - 25 years ago! Learning the Rosetta Stone way is stimulating, challenging and effortless all at the same time. The best part is . . .it is REALLY FUN! I enjoy and actually look forward to getting on every evening I can. I'm really looking forward to moving on to level 2 one day soon! I'm really doing this! The Rosetta Stone way really works!
