Excellent helper I studied Irish for awhile, on my own, about 10 years ago but something came up and I left my studies. I recently decided that I wanted to go back to the Irish studies, and while I learn better with dissection of the language (I have my Irish dictionary at hand always) and sometimes the photos used to illustrate grammatical points on RS can be ambiguous when learning new terminology, all in all the Irish program on RS is very good. Pronunciation practice and spelling, especially in a language with as complex a system as this one, is essential. I prefer verb conjugations, syntax..essentially the classical classroom language approach..but learning by repetition, hearing and reinforcement is also a good way to stay involved, interested and to see progress. I would recommend this product to anyone who wishes to learn basic Irish. I just wish it had the 5 levels that many larger languages have instead of only 3. Perhaps that might be something to consider adding for those of us who are serious about learning Irish more deeply. However, even with 3 levels only, this is a good product, especially if you are a "learn by ear" kind of person. I am happy I bought it, and even though I learn better by grammar lessons, worksheets and similar traditional classroom techniques, the RS Irish program is a nice addition to my learning materials. I recommend it. It has its flaws for someone who prefers more detailed examination of the language like I do, but the pronunciation and spelling exercises are excellent and the repetition, while frustrating at times, does help a great deal. Good product! August 25, 2012
irish I have a hard time learning when I am only given the Nouns. I have to learn sentences and can't the way you have it. So what do i have if i know how to say boy or girl or woman or man, if I cant say what they are doing?? April 7, 2011
Rosetta Irish 1,2&3 I think the Rosetta Stone course overall is a great tool to use when learning a new language. Their method gives a lot of information but in a way that doesn't confuse of overwhelm you. I have all three levels of Irish and have upgraded to v4 TOTALe. I have completed all of level 1 and half of level 2 and am still excited about it as the day when I first started level 1. My only complaint is that the new version with online interaction between other users, for Irish at least, is a little barren. I'm hoping that as this becomes more popular it won't be as hard to find other users to interactive with online. Aside from this the Rosetta Stone system is amazing. December 31, 2010
Simply the Best I began looking for Irish learning materials about 10 months ago when my wife and I decided that we would go to Ireland to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. I checked out Rosetta Stone, of course, but it seemed at the time to be a steep investment, and I settled instead for another (much less expensive) software package. When I realized that my progress was going painfully slow despite daily sessions with the product, I tried another system. Then another ... and another ... four others in all, with none of them bringing me much success. Then Rosetta Stone announced its new Totale package, and as I had remained on its mailing list, offered a discount for the Irish Level 1, 2 and 3 package, and I knew that I could not hold out any longer. I purchased it at a kiosk and began using it the same day. The difference was immediately apparent. After months of struggling with vocabulary memorization, wrestling with frustrating grammar issues and being all but bereft of any guidance at all concerning pronunciation, I suddenly began learning to actually think in Irish. All the hurdles literally started to vanish -- and it was and is happening naturally, intuitively as I become immersed in the language via the lessons and the games in Rosetta World. I had my first studio session with a native speaker about a week ago. I had been a bit nervous about it in the few days leading up to the session, but it turned out to be so much fun that I can't wait until my next one. Rosetta Stone not only offers by far the best Irish-learning software that I have found -- there is not even any comparison, really -- but they go the extra mile to make sure that learners stay interested and motivated, and that we're actually making progress. I would advise anyone who wants to learn Irish but may be hesitant because of the cost, Rosetta Stone's Irish program is a bargain, and well worth every cent. November 17, 2010
Great Language Builder The system is easy to use. Just look at the pics and repeat whats said. Your brain associates the words and the pictures. I got away from the lessons for a while. Started up again and actually remembered what I had learned before. Very effective way to learn. April 7, 2010
Irish pack 123 Once the package arrived I opened it and was pleasantly surprised at the simplicity of the directions. Everything loaded easily on my computer and the controls and settings were easy to master. After starting the program I was impressed at the direction and ease of instruction. Everything was understandable and I am well on my way to learning Irish. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to learn a new language or refresh themselves on second languages they already know. I'm looking foreword to purchasing my next choice of language. Slan. This program works wonders I've taken four years of Spanish class, and this program has done more for me in three months than those classes have done in years. Having always wanted to speak Gaelic, I decided to give Rosetta Stone a shot, because I'd heard wonderful reviews. They are well deserved! Although at first some of the activities can be confusing, listening to the audio CD's and repeating the lessons really helped me catch on. In my previous language classes, I've had no trouble learning to read/write the language, but it's difficult to transfer that knowledge into speaking/listening. Rosetta Stone made it easy. I got used to hearing and recognizing the sounds of the language, and was able to understand spoken words. It was also surprisingly simple to master the grammar aspect. The rules of grammar slowly begin to resolve themselves. I got through this entire program in about three months. I've been listening to the audio CD to keep up my skills, and I'm comfortably conversational in Irish Gaelic. This program worked wonders. I recommend it completely!!! April 7, 2010
Rosetta Stone & I I have been working on Rosetta Stone on the Irish (Gaelic) language (Gaelic 1, 2 & 3) for about 7 months. I find it challanging without being overbearing. I am quite ready to face my Irish speaking family this summer and astound them. I grew up in Ireland without speaking or really learning Gaelic. I have learned more in the past seven months as those of my family who have been immersed in it for years. The audio disks are immensely helpful as I use them in my car, or my boombox or recorfd player. I cannot be too high in my praise of Rosetta Stone. Your product is excellent. I would recommend it to anyone. I am sure that your other courses are even better because I am sure there is not a huge demand for Irish. I thank you for having it. Slan Leat April 7, 2010
Amazing This system was absolutely amazing. I had four weeks to learn a new language before leaving on a month long trip to Ireland. It was the easiest thing I had to do to get ready for the trip. The way the system works it was simple to follow and find meanings to each set of new vocabulary. I was able then to use the included CDs and practice pronunciation and reinforce the day to day language skills I would need. I have taken classes to learn a language before and it took many years to become fluent and with Rosetta Stone I was able to become fluent enough to speak to the locals and feel comfortable in conversing. It really is the best system without memorization or need of word to word translation. July 11, 2009
Very helpful The best program for self-learning that I have found. I have improved my fluency considerably by using Rosetta Stone Irish. May 11, 2009
GRÁ!!!! I have been trying to learn Irish by book and disc, and they didn't work well, then I started taking classes at the local heritage centre, and they were going alright, but slow, and I was ahead of most of the class, but I when I found out Rosetta Stone was being offered in Irish, I went right for it. Now I am taking my classes as well as using the software and I am ahead of my game and I've started listening to programmes on TG4 and Raidió na Gaeltachta. Now all I have to do is make sure I don't mix up my Irish and my Spanish on my Spanish tests in school. April 17, 2009
Finally, I can learn a foreign language! Have always had trouble learning a foreign language, as it us usually taught as memorization. But Rosetta is different. It teaches total immersion. It really is like we learned to speak as children. Thank you! March 26, 2009
Irish Language Course is Great I purchased the Irish Level 1, 2 & 3 and have found the course easy to use and very straight forward. I only found out about Rosetta Stone three years ago and was disappointed at that time that there was no Irish Language course. You can be imaging my delight last year when I discovered they had an Irish Language course. I ordered the full Irish Level 1, 2 & 3 with Audio Companion. Having now "tasted" and very happy with course and the cost. I now intend to learn Spanish(Latin American) March 12, 2009
Rosetta Stone Irish I love this software. I have always wanted to learn Irish, but I live in Colorado, USA and there just aren't any teachers here. I tried to learn on my own from a book, but it was near impossible without having the pronunciation to help. Rosetta Stone software is extremely easy to use. I love that there is no English used at all so I must learn the phrases without help. It's a better way to learn than trying to constantly translate from one language to another. Highly recommended. Challenging, but fun I am finding the Rosetta Stone program for learning Irish very challenging, but fun. It is a difficult language to learn, but I am learning much more quickly using this method than any of the others I have tried. I am also easily bored with other methods, and this has maintained my interest so far. I also had a small problem with my virus software blocking some of the Rosetta Stone data as a virus. I contacted their customer service, adn they were very pleasant and helpful. They were concerned and empathetic. I was very pleased with the experience. I have nothing but good things to say about the whole Rosetta Stone experience and I have already recommended it to others. March 11, 2009
Best Way to learn a language I have been trying to learn Irish for years. I have been using Rosetta Stone for three months, and have learned as much in those three months as I learned in the past several years. March 11, 2009
