Dia daoibh!
My boyfriend traces his family history to Ireland; he was born in the United States though, and he never learned the language. However, his family back in Ireland still speaks Irish, so it was important to him to learn the language. So, we decided to learn it together, and I must say, I cannot think of a better method than Rosetta Stone! Honestly, it just takes patience - if you're expecting just a phrase book and a language "course," you're not going to find it here. However, if you genuinely want to commit the time and brain power to truly *learning* a language, than this is the method for you. All the negative reviews I've read seem to be from people who just aren't patient enough for the program, and want just a "phrasebook," or are too afraid to take that leap of faith and trust what they've learned (they want to be re-enforced in English). Just accept the program for what it is, or more specifically what it isn't, and it's the ideal language learning tool.
About the Irish program in specific, it is practically flawless. I admit, there were a few times I was confronted with a complicated grammatical construction, and you'll have to redo the core lessons a few times to really puzzle through what they're trying to teach you. My advice to people learning Irish is to keep an eye out for patterns, specifically when the first consonant in a word change; there is a logic to it.

Makes learning a difficult language easier
Rosetta Stone makes learning Irish easier and more instinctive. Because English is not used, you don't learn to translate but rather you learn by listening to native speakers and visualizing. The Audio Companion helps me practice and makes my driving time more productive.

Very Helpful
Rosetta Stone is a great way to learn a language. It uses audio and visual learning methods. It sometimes feels like I am playing a game of matching insted of learning! Both my husband and I enjoy learning Irish and find it pleasurable to learn a language. Worth every penny!
