Not recommended If you don't know the devangari script before you purchase this product you will not be able to learn this language using Rosetta Stone. Also, they give you English words with Indian pronunciations for a lot of words like "shirt" and "pants" and "dress" and "suit" instead of including the actual Hindi words for these items. I am very disappointed in this specific language delivery but the product itself is amazing and I can see how it would be very easy to learn another new language with this software as long as you already know the alphabet or syllabary. Too vague in parts I'm only on Level 1, Lesson 2, so please take that into consideration for this review. I'm frustrated with the use of the script and the vague way of using pronouns. At least, I think the pronouns are vague. I don't know well enough to explain that. I don't have a dictionary, this software doesn't include one, and I can't figure out the difference between voh and veh. It looks like voh is a singular third person (he/she) and veh is a plural third person (they), but I cannot get confirmation of that anywhere online, probably because I have no idea if that is the correct phonetic spelling with the Roman alphabet. The few websites that I have found with Hindi pronouns either show the opposite, or don't show either. It is frustrating. So you should probably purchase a dictionary if you have any hope of making sense of some of the more vague aspects of this software. That said, I used this software for three hours the first day, and could say "the girl drinks water". I could also recognize a few letters of devanagari script. Rosetta Stone is hands down the best language learning software. I have used briefly the Spanish software, and I give that more than 5 stars. Of course, Spanish is written with an alphabet I am familiar with! I deducted one star because of the frustrations about devanagari script and the inability to figure out the phonetic spelling of words so I can look them up in a separate source. September 12, 2010

Honest Review of a super product I wanted to learn Hindi to enrich my experience. Being out of school for decades, I was not sure if the traditional approach of rote learning would serve the purpose. I came to know of Rosetta Stone and frankly, this is the best product to learn a new language. The experience has been fantastic and I am making rapid progress. I would offer the following suggestion. The course should have an imbedded dictionary so that the student can look it up for the exact meaning of words. April 26, 2010

Overall very good The product is very good at teaching me the fundamental of Hindi and the immersive environment is excellent for vocabulary and basic sentence structure. I would like better grammar explanations but I can pick up most grammar with practice. I would also like additional activities outside the graded courses to practice. I do find that there is a lot of variability in exercises and that helps to learn the basic lessons. April 21, 2010

Actually 4.5 stars, but... ...if I have to round the stars on this rating, I have to round up to 5 stars. Our family is try to learn Hindi before heading to India. This is the easiest way to go. It seems that the voice recognition is just shy of perfect, but I have a feeling we'll be understood anyway. The software is expensive, but until there is a closer competitor, this is the best game in town. I'd like to see them discount upgrades in the future. I have an old version for a different language and would like to have version 3 handle both languages. With the prices they charge, they should be more customer friendly. Bottom line. They got my repeat business anyway and it only cost them half a star. March 12, 2009
