TOTALe™ German 12 - Months
German in Action
We travel to Germany once or twice a year. While I had picked up a smattering of traveler's German over the years, I decided it was time to learn some more.
We have family living in Germany and my husband has been studying German for years.
I study French with a private tutor (over 10 years) and thought another language would be fun.
I also do Genealogy and originally started French in order to read records. I found that with my new found German skills, my reading of German records has become easier.
Thanks for the experience

Great product that could use some enhancements
I know Rosetta Stone is the go to product for learning a new language. I think there could be two big improvements to enhance the user experience. One, it would be nice to schedule reminders for lessons. I know you can schedule the live sessions, but in my busy life as a working mom, I often forget to log in and do the lessons regularly! A reminder email saying "Got 20 minutes? Do Lesson 2 now!" and link to the next lesson (And there could be an option that says "No time right now? Schedule it for later!" and link to a calendar setting to set a reminder in a few hours, tomorrow, etc). Two, I have no idea how many lessons/units I need to get through to stay on pace to learn all 5 levels in 1 year. Do I need to get through one lesson (or unit, whatever they're called) a day? 3? Can I spend one hour every few days? So, it would be awesome if there was a sort of "interview" survey once you start Rosetta where you can set goals of how much you want to accomplish, and then Rosetta feeds you emails/reminders based on that goal pace. And of course, there should be the option to change that in your settings. Finally, I think there could be some improvement to the lessons themselves. They are too easy! Some of the matching options in the lessons (like matching a sentence to the image) are silly. I can see the word right in the sentence so I know it goes to the right picture. But the rest of the sentence is lost on me because I'm just finding the one word. It's also silly to pronounce or match partial words, like the prompt will say "elb" and I have to either match it to "elb" or "ot" (for "rot"). It's just too obvious and I'm not sure what the point is.
Anyway, that last suggestion is minor; but the first two are really important in my opinion!

Learning German From a Childs Perspective
I find the online product easy to use. It is very convenient. I was surprised to see there was no information regarding the rules of grammar. However, after thinking on this it made since to use pictures as a a means of learning. After all that is how children learn: seeing, hearing, and repeat.
It is a very natural process. Good product.

For the glory of god and the accuracy of His word.
I learned German in highschool and traveled overseas to see the culture. I soon forgot most of what I learned after I had not practiced on a regular basis. Now, I work at a bookstore that sells biblical research books and products. Four of the products we have are German books about topics in the bible. I love language and culture. I'm excited to learn as much as possible. I want to have fun mostly and second to become a better biblical student for the reason that when studying the bible for the inherant accuracy of God's word, sometimes words in other languages helps greatly with understanding God's original intent sence there are no texts in existance by the writers. Thank you Rossetta stone for making this product so easy to understand like the bible. The demo on German seems so much more interactive than any other product I ever used on German. I'm ready to buy this product and tell all my friends about it.

This product is amazing
I really enjoyed this product. It gave me the basics, so I was prepared for for a recent backpacking trip. I still have a long way to go, but I am enjoying the method. The games are not engaging - but I enjoy the classes.

Love this program
I am in my mid 40s have tried to learn two other languages before and failed soon after starting, due to loss of interest. It is hard for me to stay interested, but not the case with this program. It is so much fun I dont watch TV very much anymore. I had rather do the lessons and play the games. I would even go so far as to say it is relaxing after work. Love the fact that I can access it anywhere I can get online. I travel with work. It is so much fun my friends two young boys want to stop playing their xbox to come learn new words. They are 9 and 11.
Good Job Rosetta Stone
