A very complete language learning system
Using Rosetta Stone after having tried a few other programs, I'll tell you it's a much more complete system. It introduces you to new words & parts of the language and it's up to you to figure it out without being told directly...so proper grammar begins to 'sound' correct and you can catch your own mistakes. It also focuses a good bit on spelling, which I believe gives you a much better understanding of the structure of the language and makes being introduced to more advanced vocabulary later on a lot easier to handle.
Overall, I think this system gives you the essential bits & pieces to learn the language and guides you through the language in such a way that you can fill in the rest on your own - which, in the end, I think results in a very good understanding of the language & how it works...not just the ability to speak it; it leaves you in a position to learn more colorful words and become poetic in your new language.

Simply a Brilliant Computer Language Program!
I am very happy to write a review for Rosetta Stone German Levels 1-5. I am currently on Level 4 of the German program just shy of Level 5, and I recently went on a cruise to the Southern Caribbean. Of all places, it turned out that about 35% of the cruise ship was booked by Germans. I spent half of my time on the cruise ship running into Germans and speaking German to them. Not only were they extremely surprised to hear an American speaking their native tongue, but they were very happy to practice their German back with me! I have to give credit to Rosetta Stone for putting together such a fantastic product. I also purchased Spanish 1-5 (and I am on level 4 as well). Believe me, there is time in the day to do two languages at the same time with Rosetta Stone.
I believe one of the many strengths Rosetta Stone has is the way they have filtered out the language into the important vocabulary one will need to succeed in the language; this aspect, followed with the ease of use, and the dynamic immersion it incorporates, makes it one of the best computer language learning softwares out there on the market today! If you already have a foundation in the language then you can take your skills to a whole new level as well.
I am also an Attorney and I plan on doing some videos on my website in Spanish and look forward to expanding my Spanish skills with the program.

Best Gift Ever!
taking it upon myself to learn a new language, i tried my hardest just learning from books that i found in my local bookstore. realizing that these books weren't helping me at all (and my birthday was coming up) i asked for Rosetta Stone. after about a couple of weeks or so i could have a simple conversation in German and i was amazed! Rosetta Stone German has got to be one of the best gifts i have received. Danke!

Learning faster than I ever imagined!
I purchased Rosetta because I will be spending several months in Germany next year. On a previous two-week trip to Germany, I despaired because I was relying on a phrasebook and no one could understand my German. Now after only two months of study I am already able to have conversations with a German friend. She tells me that my accent has improved significantly as well!
I love doing the online group sessions. The coaches are very friendly and helpful and I feel very comfortable in the sessions.

Great Program
I really like the Rosetta Stone learning system. It allows you to learn a language more naturally than any other program. I have found it more effective than trying to memorize complex grammar points and lists of vocabulary. The only thing I would change about the program is the fact that it does not show people speaking the words and phrases they want you to repeat. It is much easier to figure out the proper pronunciation of a word if you can see the movement of the lips and tongue. It is frustrating when you cannot properly pronounce a word and there is no effective demonstration of the pronunciation. Also, I would change that annoying tone you hear when you get something incorrect :)

I can talk with our exchange student
My wife and I decided to host a German exchange student. I bought Rosetta Stone partially because of the student, but mostly out of a lifelong desire to learn another language. I started using Rosetta Stone about a month before Michelle, our student, arrived. It's been five months now and Michelle & I can have simple, but spontaneous discussions. We speak during our family walks and during long drives, talking about what happened at school and what we're going to eat. My pronunciation may sometimes cause Michelle to laugh and my grammar may get me odd looks, but I am speaking German after only five months. Rosetta Stone has given me the foundation to a lifelong experience in another language. I am a little over halfway through the five course program, but I have the confidence and the knowledge that I will succeed and be able to speak with Michelle and her family for decades to come.

Excellent language learning tool.
Rosetta stone has been a fantastic aid to my language learning goals. It has only been a month, and I'm already able to have some simple conversations with my German speaking friends. Ich lerne Deutsch! Highly recommended.

I studied German when I was younger and could never get a complete handle on the language. Your program makes it so much easier I can finally look up my family members in Germany and talk to then finally!!!!:-)

Just a bit helps
I had not gotten far into my Rosetta Stone German Level 1 when I travelled to Germany. The plane actually landed in Basel, Switzerland, directly across the Rhein River where I have friends and family. I visited the Ladies Room, thus putting myself behind the other travelers on my plane, and subsequently found myself in an empty hall. The announcements were all in German. Thankfully and somewhat to my surprise, I could understand them! The airport in Basel is on the border between France and Germany and Switzerland. I was meeting people on the German side, and did not want to find myself on the French side. No problem at all! For some reason I was surprised to be able to understand the directions so clearly. This stuff works.

great system
When I was a child I studied German for 14 years in a German School and never quite spoke it. I learned a lot of vocabulary and grammar. 30 years later after I had forgotten almost of all it I decided to speak German. I was dealing with a German Customer and I needed to communicate in German. I explored many methods and finally zeroed in Rosetta Stone. Although it was more expensive than other alternatives, it was worth every penny. The system is so visual and intuitive than in a few weeks I was speaking basic German. I am now more fluent thanks to the video sessions with native speakers that are part of the online version of the course. Rosetta Stone has also several other features such as games and reading material. The thing that impressed me the most was the quality of the online instructors. They are very happy, knowledgeable individuals that celebrate every achievement and effectively correct any mistake you make by repeating patiently what you say. I have learned a lot from them. Now I have a Brazilian customer and will pick up the Portuguese version of the Course. I would recommend this product to anyone, beginner or with basic knowledge of German. It is very interactive, effective and fun.

Pretty cool!
I've been using this program for a few weeks now, still on level 1 but making some great progress. The format is unbelievably easy and cannot wait to use my new German language skills to speak with someone one on one. I would definitely recommend this program to anyone! Enjoy!

Love the Program!
I am an American living in Regensburg, Germany and am using Rosetta Stone to learn German. The program is so enjoyable to use that I have no problem being motivated to work on German every day. The way the program is organized makes it so easy to work on it daily whether you have 15 minutes or several hours. I also think the Live Studio Sessions are one of the most valuable parts of the program. Being able to actually practice what you are learning with a native speaker is invaluable.

you CAN speak a different language
I really enjoy learning. Another language is so fun to know, and helps keep the brain stimulated. So to be able to learn another language without having to fit in time to attend classes(drive time and class times) was very exciting. Wunderbar!

Nothing Beats Rosetta Stone
Rosetta Stone is just the best. I love studying languages and no class I have ever taken has been better than Rosetta Stone for making me feel confident about my growing skill with a language. I learned a little Japanese and Arabic with Rosetta Stone a few years ago from the respective level 1 programs. I needed to expand my language skills into German for work, so I picked up all 5 levels during a sale and I've loved every minute of study with Rosetta Stone. The games on their website are a fun way to reinforce your vocabulary to make sure you're getting the most out of it. It barely feels like you're working to learn a language, rather than just having fun. I cannot offer high enough praise for these products.

So far so good!
I feel like I am learning the language with very little effort or stress.

Never Too Old to Learn
Being middle-aged seemed to be a barrier to my being able to learn a new language, but to my astonishment, this is not the case. Slowly but surely I am learning and am now planning a trip to Europe in the not-too-distant future so I can show off my progress. My European family members are sure to be amazed when I am no longer stumbling through a broken mess of barely inteligible utterances. The best, unexpected surprise of all is that my teenage daughter has joined in the learning and is even surpassing me in her language development. For anyone considering Rosetta Stone, please do not put off your decision ~ say "yes" (or Oui, Ja, Si!) and jump on board. You will never regret it!

Quickest and easiest way to learn
Recently my husband and I discovered that we had family in Germany. After going to visit them, we absolutely LOVED Germany (and our family) and immediately began entertaining the idea of moving there. We made a promise to ourselves that we would wait until we felt comfortable with the language before we made the big move. After we got home, we researched different language programs and even investigated classes at a local community college, but eventually settled on Rosetta Stone. For us, it has proven to be the quickest and easiest way to learn. Certainly well worth the investment. In the beginning, we tried using other free programs to supplement our learning, but frequently became frustrated by their inaccuracy. We're constantly checking with our German-speaking cousins to assure we're using the correct words, tenses, and pronunciation and they are constantly blown away by the accuracy of Rosetta Stone and our command of the language. Now we don't even mess with any other program. Vielen dank, Rosetta Stone! Ich bete dich an!

Great for the full time life.
If you've ever wanted to learn another language, but you have a full time life then you know that taking a conventional language course would be near impossible.
I work full time and have a family of two teens and spouse. It's full time work all the way around and I have limited time to sit. The Rosetta Stone course has been wonderful because I can sneak in bits of time to learn at my pace.
The way the course guides you in learning is very different from the traditional course I took so long ago in high school. I find the learning experience more pleasant. Additionally, the mobile application is great for review on the road.
I would highly recommend Rosetta Stone.

I purchased Rosetta Stone German to improve my proficiency for professional reasons. I have found that it was been a great introduction to the language, notably as a language builder. I appreciate the different types of exercises which cater to many different styles of learning. I will definitely be adding other languages to my collection in the future.

Intuitive...
...to say the least! For us English speaking natives, the concept of masculine, feminine and neuter is hard to grasp but Rosetta Stone get right into this from the first screen! Leaping slowly ahead but loving it! I love the way it subtly introduces vocabulary, verbs and concepts. Thank you!

Academic excellence
Having used two prior Rosetta Stone programs (Spanish and French), I was disappointed with the functionality of HP3 in the current (German) program. Prior versions of Rosetta Stone used traditional Compact Disc (CD) technology that could be used in my automobile and with my home CD player. In order to use the most recent version, I was forced to purchase a portable HP3 (DVD) player and have found it to be very cumbersome to use. The HP3 discs do not pause easily and when they do, the machine times out and forces the user to start the lesson over again. And, the lessons are much too long. I find it very difficult to allocate enough disturbance free time to finish individual study sessions. Having pointed out the short-comings in the current HP3 version, I have to say that the academic content and pedagogic strategies in the current version are outstanding. Anyone wanting to learn German at home or at school should consider buying and using Rosetta Stone. It introduces pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar incrementally in a form that is easy to understand and fun to use. Subsequent editions of Rosetta Stone HP3 wll solve technical problems, and current users will still find that Rosetta Stone helps develop language proficiency better than any other product currently available.

Grammer explanation needed
I have been working with the Rosetta Stone German language package with success overall. It is a cookie cutter type model for language learning that is applied across all the languages they provide. I have had success learning German overall but the most difficult aspect has been learning the appropriate grammatical rules, which in German are complex. Rosetta Stone does not provide any explanation of the rules, but instead you are expected to memorize a plethora of grammatical masculine and feminine signatures present in the language. It's difficult to manage. I ordered some supplementary materials in the hope that they can help me make a little more sense out of what is considered masculine and feminine and what grammatical signature accompany the various verbs and nouns. Overall it is the next best thing to sitting in a classroom, but I would recommend obtaining reader friendly grammatical texts to accompany the program.Otherwise you'll be doing a lot of guess when the reviews start to mount up.

How I learned German
When I bought Rosetta Stone I was skeptical at first because I was nervous to spend as much money as I did. My family said they would help me out a little but I know I wanted to try it no matter what. Once I bought Rosetta Stone I loved it. I was always doing it because I thought it was very fun to do. I would do it for hours straight and look up and be like "Wow I got to go to bed!" I recommend it to everyone that asks me about it. It is a fun way to learn the language you want to learn.

Good for the brain
I studied German in college over 40 years ago. I'm using Rosetta Stone now to relearn the language just for the fun of it. It's good excercise for my aging brain.
I do wish there was a written script with each level to help me review. Maybe that could be made available as an option. I also find that my voice recognition has trouble with any word containing a Z which meant I had to repeatedly do the pronunciation units before RS would let me out of level 1. That was frustrating.
If I do some excercise everyday, I find myself thinking in German. Also, though I have only completed level one and parts of level 2, I find reading in German has come back to me.

Effective product
You will learn to speak German if you use this product. Like any new skill it takes time and effort on your end but if you put in the time this program wont let you down. It uses three styles along of teaching with repetition to bolster your confidence in understanding the language. The only downside that could use improvement would be explainations about sentence structure and grammer but ive only worked through the first CD so maybe its yet to come!
