Quick Progress and Easy to Follow The contents are cleverly designed so one does not need to look up words using a dictionary or a translator. Learing progress has been surprisingly quick as well. After completing Level 1, I can already comprehend much of the radio news broacasted in French. The listening, speaking, and writing exercises supported by corresponding visuals saved permanent memory to my brain. Rosetta Stone is THE way to quickly and effectively learn a foreign language. As a teacher, I know that it helps when we learn through our own guided learning, so the way that often we come to find the meaning of words through their use and the picture context is great. Studio sessions with other learners are often fun, depending on the coach. Most are very friendly and make us feel comfortable. December 1, 2012
Worth Every Penny As a bi-racial, multi-cultural actor, I have always loved learning new languages--especially those belonging to my own heritage. On the flip side, I am a stringent bargain hunter. Of course I wanted to learn my next language via Rosetta Stone, but I wanted to hunt down a used version first. I didn't have much luck w/ that because nobody wanted to sell theirs! Why would they? When Rosetta finally granted a huge discount to my actor's union, I jumped on the steal of a deal. I am so glad that that same offer is available to everyone this holiday season. The TOTALe version could not be more convenient. My family and I can access our French lessons anytime, anywhere--thanks to the apps specially designed for the tablet and smart phone. None of us are fluent yet, but we've all seen and learned enough to know that Rosetta Stone is worth every penny--w/ or w/o a discount. We can't wait to go take that family trip to France and order our breakfast in French at a patisserie! December 1, 2012
Worth your while. Learn on your terms I've used Rosetta Stone for french, Spanish, and Japanese. I've studied french in college, but retained the language a lot more with Rosetta Stone. Native speakers are impressed with my accent an pronunciation. It started as just a hobby but turned out to be a big part of my life and now livelihood that I currently use it for work. Thanks! It sneaks up on you! I started Rosetta Stone after trying a series of sample programs on line. I wasn't sure what to expect but I hoped it would be easy. I have been using it daily for about 30 mins and I was thinking hmm I don't know French yet. But then I watched a French film and I was amazed at how much of it I understood!! My speech and grammar needs work but my vocab is amazing for such a short time. I also love the studio sessions because the live teacher fills in the gaps and is very encouraging. You won't regret the investment! November 28, 2012
Good visual cues but I struggle to understand the grammar rule sometimes. Also, I find the pace too fast. When a page is completed, I would like a minute to study the examples in front of me. November 28, 2012
Studio got me over the fear. I took a week long trip to Paris recently and was surprised and pleased at how much more confident I was to use my new language after practicing in Studio during my lessons. It's one thing to learn privately where no one can hear your mistakes, but another thing altogether to put your voice out there and risk misunderstanding when you are trying to communicate with strangers in a new place in a new language. Rosetta Studio gave me that ability, since I had already 'tested' my skills in a safe and encouraging environment before I went. I could have studied longer to have more vocabulary, but it didn't matter, just having a means to interact with the people around me made my first trip to France a wonderful experience. I'll be continuing with my studies for the next trip. November 28, 2012
Some bugs, overall good value I mostly use the Ipad ap for down times at work or watching TV. The voice recognition works better than I expected even with the TV on. It appears to be the same as the DVD set (I own the Spanish set). The writing lessons are locked, OK w/me since I am trying to review written/spoken French. Problems have been : crashes requiring an reinstall; restarting a lesson that was passed on every new opening. Sometimes some lag . Some picturess/text being too small for the IPad format. Finally learning French I have always been embarrassed to live in a bilingual country and not be able to speak our other official language. I've tried several times to learn, in high school and university and taking part time classes, but Rosetta Stone has been the answer. It's fun, comprehensive and convenient. I hope to be able to converse in French with colleagues at our annual conference in the spring. Maybe a third language would be even better. Spanish? Japanese? November 28, 2012
Good program, minor improvements suggested I started French in high school and then placed out in college without ever gaining fluency. On a recent trip abroad, one of my main takeaways is that it will be important to learn a new language as the world becomes increasingly globalized over the next century and further on. So I took up Rosetta Stone's one-year online package to refine and strengthen my French vocabulary as well as my speaking, writing, grammatical, and listening skills. There are a lot of features to Rosetta Stone that are helpful in terms of bolstering all of these. The games also help offer a different opportunity to learn the language in a different processing mechanism. However it is not perfect as it will introduce different tenses of verbs interchangeably in lessons without going into great detail as to why the sudden change. There also should be a dictionary feature within the site so I can look up words or phrases/idioms I cannot translate myself (serrer dans ses bras, is one term I never encountered in my 5 years of taking French). Finally, the lessons get repetitive, which may be by design. But if there is a way to alter that, I think it would be good. Also finally, most people want to learn how to SPEAK the language. I think there need to be more conversational elements in lessons like during the "Milestone lesson" at the end of each unit. This could greatly bolster our French-speaking abilities. I still have a fair amount of lessons to learn, but so far I am enjoying the experience. November 28, 2012
Great Product! Well I don't have a particular story to tell but I've decided to take a different aproach than most. As opposed to trying to become fluent in any one single laguage I'm using the online subscription to study a new language every year. I've completed Spanish and working on French. Next year I want to move on to Chinese and go from there. This is a great product to teach you the basics on any language. If you put in the effort you will surprised how much and how quickly you will pick up your chosen new language!!! I'm a customer for life! November 28, 2012
