Lovin' It I absolutely adore rosetta stone french, I've learned so much in seven months that it's incredible. I'd recommend it to everyone I'm 17 and never thought I'd love this but I do. May 13, 2013
Impressed overall I purchased Rosetta Stone levels 1-5 about 9 months ago. I had studied French at school (15 years ago) so had forgotten most of it hence I was happy to start afresh. Now 9 months later (and having completed the first three levels) I can hold simple conversations in French and read some fairly complicated texts. But before you get too excited I have used a number of text books, group lessons and at least 5 iphone apps, along with RS to get me to where I am now. RS gave me the push and motivation to really try and get to grips with the language. I think on its own it has some flaws but by using it as PART of your learning plan leads to fast results. I would like to add that the live lessons are good however myself (and all old subscribers) get unlimited lessons per month for only £20. New users will only be able to book 4 lessons a month! To me this seems like a bit of a joke. April 15, 2013
Great! I'm a 12th grader and I take french, but I no longer really have time for it with homework, dance and gymnsatics. My friend recommended Rosetta Stone and I thought no way am I paying that price. She let me try hers and it was amazing so I went out and bought it. Now I'm much better with French and I can still do after school activities! February 9, 2013
Terrible No lessons are given. In the real world ,, parents. grandparents, aunts, uncles ,, all teach you to speak. Pointing at objects and telling you what they are. Rosetta Stone makes you guess. You spend so much time guessing that you start to forget what the correct answer is. Waste of money !!! January 20, 2013
The Courage To Speak I have been studying French since I was in high school many, many years ago. I recently decided to try Rosetta Stone because it gave me the opportunity to practice pronunciation. Never did I dream it would also encourage me to actually speak French to another real, live human being! But it does! When I did my first Studio, I was extremely nervous, but my mentor was wonderful and kind and put me at easy--in French! I could actually understand her and, amazingly, she could understand me. She was patient with me and corrected my mistakes with kindness and accuracy. Each Studio became easier so that I became more comfortable; I'm still a little nervous and I get a bit tongue-tied and remember after the session something I should have said in response to a question, but I that just means I have learned something in the session. I may take the session over--something I will do this week because I had a technical problem besides being tongue-tied--and I will be better prepared. I will get more out of this Studio then. Studio has given me a voice and the courage the actually speak in French with other people. And soon I may start to try out French chat and actually try my hand at chatting with other French students. After all, they are students just like I am and I'm sure make mistakes just like I will. And I'll learn from them and they'll learn from me. Rosetta Stone provides all these ways to connect with people, ways I did not dream I was signed up for when I ordered Rosetta Stone, but I am so glad they are included. Rosetta Stone has given me the courage to actually speak French to native speakers and to student speakers. What a wonderful gift! December 28, 2012
Well worth the purchase! My name is Kelli and I purchased the Rosetta Stone French. I am really pleased with the software and the program itself. I purchased all five levels online for a discounted price as a birthday present to myself. I realize that with a busy lifestyle and a busy schedule, that something that I can do on my own time, is far more convenient than trying to sign up for class. I recently was living, studying and working in Spain. I was studying Spanish through an in class structure with an actual teacher. That was absolutely the best, as you have a real person in front of you; however, it is far more costly and unless it is an intensive curriculum, you do not have the same number of hours per week. Rosetta Stone is perfect to fit all of those needs. It is something that I can do when I have time. The core lessons are only about 30 minutes, which really isn't very long. The remainder of the activities are between 5 and 15 minutes, which really isn't very much time when you think about it. Also, with the exception of the core lessons, I find that the shorter activities I complete in about half of the allotted time. So, it really isn't as time-consuming as it might project. The software is very interactive and the activities almost operate as if they were games. It is a combination of spoken, written and click type activities. The combination of not only hearing the word, but also seeing the word and most importantly, seeing a visual image of whatever that item is as well catapults the success of Rosetta Stone beyond other learning methods. As aforementioned, I was studying towards my Spanish fluency in Spain; however, I also certified myself as an ESL teacher. One of the main things I learned in that teaching course, was about teaching information in context. The most essential component that brings the Rosette Stone software program success, is their capacity to teach the information in context and build on previous vocabulary that has already been taught. I highly recommend Rosetta Stone and have considered purchasing the Portuguese Rosetta Stone for my fourth language. November 30, 2012
Very good but still can improve I recently purchased Rosetta Stone to start studying French again. I am really enjoying this course, which keeps me wanting to continue it. I have tried several other courses and like Rosetta best because: 1. The learning process is without translation, from the image directly to the word, so you think in the language from the beginning, just as you learned your native language. 2. It is fun, so you want to do it day after day. It makes you want to make the time to study. In my opinion, these are the most important features in any language program. I believe this program would be even better if it also included an Exercise and Grammar book to practice more writing and grammar options. November 30, 2012
Yes, I'm Actually Learning French! When I left Paris back in August of 2012, I made a promise to myself that when I returned in December I would be speaking French. I saw a commercial for Rosetta Stone, which I had been considering for at least two years, talked to an excellent telephone sales rep, and made the leap. I have never regretted it. I am actually learning French, and when I leave for Paris next week, I feel confident I'll be able to communicate better than ever before. I can't wait! And now my sister is beginning the Arabic Rosetta Stone Course. We will have many languages in our future. November 29, 2012
French Made Easy?!? My first trip to Paris proved many things - It is quite possibly the most beautiful city in the world; Parisians are more friendly than you think; French sounds like an alien language to the untrained ear. After coming home, I knew Rosetta Stone was the only way I would be able to learn the French language. After only a few weeks of having the program, I am able to understand full sentences and carry on an introductory conversation. I never thought a foreign language would be this easy to learn. The farther I go with the product, the more I want to become fluent! Rosetta Stone breaks down language so that anyone is able to learn. November 29, 2012
after several attempts of learning French online, I have finally found the right software and method for learning French. I had resisted buying Rosetta Stone before because I wanted to get a full appreciation of how it worked before indulging in a purchase. I was travelling through Miami Airport and saw the Rosetta Stone store. the gentleman at the store was very friendly and patient with me and gave me a thorough demonstration of the Rosetta Stone software. I immediately realised that this was the software that would suit my needs and it was like immersion without leaving home. He told me he had taken the French and was able to speak with travellers from France recently. I particularly like the companion guide which I downloaded on my MP3 so I can listen to while I have lunch or take a walk. I also liked that my learning is now in a systematic manner and my progress is being tracked. I look forward to completing all five levels and then moe on to another language. The only shortfall is I sometimes have to refer to a grammer book for grammer notes explanation. However, that helps to reinforce my learning experience. November 29, 2012
Catherine Covington I was deciding between taking an actual French course, or buying the Rosetta Stone but overall I've been very satisfied with my decision in choosing Rosetta. I can see how its techniques and no english translations really allow you to focus on the language. The online aspect was helpful and fun with the games, but I just wish it was open to you a little longer than 3 months. It's a unique way of learning and though I still have a long way to go before I completely grasp French, I feel as though I won't be as discouraged communicating when I move to France for school. I took 5 years of French throughout middle school and high school and had excelled. I have always struggled with the conversation aspect and really suffered from anxiety. With the Rosetta Stone program not only am I able to refresh my skills but improve my confidence in my conversation without having to fight through my anxiety. It's a major plus to the program! french Good program. The on line sessions with a native speaker is very helpful. November 29, 2012
Learning a new language I live and work in Sedona, Az. I received Rosetta Stone as a birthday gift from my husband because my retail consultant position brings me in contact with people from all over the world including a large number from France and many French speaking Canadians. This program is allowing me to bridge the communication gap and opening conversations that never would have occurred otherwise. Language is vital and Rosetta Stone has allowed me to create new experiences in cultural integration. Thanks, Rosetta Stone!! November 29, 2012
I am very happy with the program and I would recommend it to anyone wishing to learn a new language. I have had fun during our French sessions and playing games provided by Rosetta Stone. November 29, 2012
Loving this program! I've already recommended the Rosetta Stone system to a number of friends. This is the most fun I've had learning French; it certainly beats the conventional way I was taught in school years ago. The learning becomes intuitive and you realize your vocabulary and understanding is constantly increasing lesson by lesson. My comprehension has grown by leaps and bounds and I feel confident that I could carry a reasonable conversation even though I'm not done the course yet. November 29, 2012
Well worth the price I have been studying French with the Rosetta Stone for several months. It is not only an excellent learning mechanism, it is also fun and enjoyable. I actually look forward to it! The hardest thing so far has been not having enough time to do more of the lessons. I've studied French in the past, and I am particularly pleased with how much better my retention has been using the Rosetta Stone versus traditional learning methods. Personally, I think the product is an amazing value if you truly want to learn the language and on your own terms. November 29, 2012
Rosetta Stone is the best product available to learn a foreign language. I have struggled to learn French for years, but with Rosetta Stone I am finally learning to speak and understand French. The group sessions are fantastic! It is truly the best purchase someone can make if one is serious about learning a foreign language. November 29, 2012
I am constantly impressed by the way that Rosetta Stone works, and the presentation of complicated grammer without ever explaining it. I feel like I've learned a lot in just a short time. November 28, 2012
great sotware I would like to say that so far I am enjoying the software very much. I find it is very easy to navigate and yes would recommend it to anyone. November 28, 2012
So, so, so, so worth every penny. Wanting to be fluent in a second language has been a life long dream/ goal. Laziness has been my nemesis. I took Latin in High School because I thought it would be useful in my choral career. ( I don't have a choral career and I later learned it wasn't even a language people still speak#. Good going idiot. I love to travel and one of my favorite places is Montreal, but I always feel so left out of communcation, unless some kind soul can speak to the stupid American in English. This summer I was hired by a French owned company and a great majority of our clients are French Canadian. It was now or never. I had to make the leap and learn French. I had heard amazing things about Rosetta Stone for years, but the price scared me a little. I said what the heck, gotta at least try. I was hooked on the first lesson. I did not know what to expect, but it is total immersion, slowly, so you don't get frustrated, you don't fail, you can take breaks, play games etc. You don't realize you learned something until you see the picture, you hear the word, and you understand. Next hurdle was the online tutorial. I was terrified. I didn't want strangers to see me online# they don't!#, I didn't want to sound stupid#you don't!# and I wanted to walk away from the tutorial feeling good about myself#I did#. I have to say though, that was the most stressful 30 minutes in years, but only because I doubted myself. Elizabeth spoke in only French and only asked myself and the other student online questions in French. I hadn't gotten to questions in my lessons# still not sure there is a section on it:-)) but she repeated and guided me to allow my brain to figure it out. I never sweat or felt so dumb as the beginning of the session and by the end of the 30 minutes, I was so proud of myself, I couldn't stop talking about it and what I accomplished. I can't wait for my next online tutorial. I won't lie, I will be just as scared, but I know the cd's are preparing me fully for it. It is one thing to read or recite, but speaking and listening to another is a vital part of the program. I ever so highly recommend it and can't wait to travel and talk to people in French and understand and communicate. November 28, 2012
Actually Works It's been a long time since I took french and I was able to pick the language up again with Rosetta Stone. I tried some other programs, and none of them helped me, but this helped me a lot right away. November 28, 2012
I love the fact that I'm learning a language, and I'm not really even realizing it. Simply because, it isn't work. Rosetta Stone engineered their program in such a way as to utilize our basic learning skills, those of observation and repetition, so there is no extra effort. There is just doing the program. And before you know it, you know can speak your language of choice without difficulty. Brilliant. November 28, 2012
French - so very easy to learn I have been watching the adverts on tv and finally once being downsized and wanting to change careers, I decided to purchase this product and learn French. I love how easy it is and how much I remember day to day. I am still in the beginners stages but enjoy the lessons. I have since purchased the Spanish and Italian and hope to start them soon as well! November 28, 2012
You won't go wrong with this investment Well I always thought about investment as money and luxuries but to tell you the truth I found Rosetta Stone to be one of those valuable investments IF you are very serious about learning a new language or I shall say a new life :-) English is my 3rd language and I am learning French and I took 2 French courses when I was in college. Don't take me wrong nothing was wrong with that but what is different is the speed of learning ;-) November 28, 2012
I bought the Portuguese set a few years ago and really improved my skills, but I wasn't sure if it was because of my Spanish background that made it easier, or if I had learned through Rosetta Stone. After I bought the French set and started practicing with the lessons and became stronger in French, I knew it was because of Rosetta Stone. If you practice every day, you'll go far and improve quickly. But you have to be ready to commit yourself to learning a new language. November 28, 2012
Learning French...... Learning French is fun&Xciting..... the developed program in Rosetta Stone is fantastic !!!! November 28, 2012
I started off learning French in a classroom, but I never made the progress that I wanted to. After trying the demo online, I decided to buy it. I love this product, I really enough the way that it is set up. And how each lesson puts emphasis on different skills, such as pronounciation, grammer, or writing. I feel like I am honestly improving. November 28, 2012
Easy as 1-2-3! The first day I did the Rosetta Stone program, I liked it so much that I was literally on it for six hours straight! The method is just like how you learned your first language, and it's so much easier than taking corses through school. I can learn in the comfort of my own home or favorite coffee shop. It's so simple that you don't even realize just how much you are learning so quickly! I would recommend this to ANYONE that wants to learn a new language. November 28, 2012
Approach Not For Everyone While I can certainly see the value of the Rosetta Stone approach and how it could work well for many learning a new language, I personally found the lack of direct guidance on grammar and usage very challenging and would benefit from more specific discussion on rules.
