Highly Recommended I enjoy using Rosetta Stone for Mandarin very much; however, it still requires dedication. I think I need to spend at least 90 minutes 4-5 days a week, in order to feel I am making progress. At the rate I've been going, it's been over a year, and I am in the middle of Level 5. Although I am a language nerd, my memory is no longer as sharp, so I emphasize the need for daily commitment. I agree with some other comments, that it is sometimes unclear what the picture context is. Sometimes, I am able to go through the exercises, and not understand what I am saying. That is the one difficulty of this immersion technique. Nevertheless, I think this is one of the best systems for learning a language short of an actual instructor. I would definitely buy a Cantonese or Shanghainese version of Rosetta Stone! May 1, 2013

Great product For the time being I give the product 4 stars but it probably deserve a 4.5. Its an awesome application that integrates foreign language learning with immersion. It goes a long way when you have someone to practice with. This review would be more in depth but since I have purchased the item I am approaching volume 2 of 5 but basic greetings among some words I am able to understand what the conversation is with whomever is talking about a certain subject. This program definitely opened the door to a new opportunity in my life and couldn't be happier. Would look forward to a Cantonese version. December 21, 2012
It's okay with the discount Rosetta Stone is a great introduction to a language, however, I would not have bought it if it were not for the deeply discounted price. Rosetta Stone also does not teach grammar (i.e. why words and sentences are used and structured the way they are). There is no true understanding of the language. December 6, 2012
The interactive nature in the learning process will help both beginners and advanced learners alike. Because Chinese is a very complex language, when you revisit the lessons, you will find you can learn more each time. The program allows you to practice your pronounciation and even learn how to read and write. I have never seen any program even close to this before. November 30, 2012
Excellent Program My experience with Rosetta Stone has been wonderful. I purchased and am currently working through Mandarin levels 1-5. Rosetta Stone's style of teaching is great. The mixture of visual, text, and audio really ensures that you retain as much as possible. Beyond the lessons, the games that are offered on Totale are very helpful and fun too. I was impressed to find the games adapting to my current level to reinforce my recent material while still including prior material to maintain what I had already learned. If you are thinking about buying Rosetta Stone, you would have my recommendation. November 29, 2012
Pretty Good Product Rosetta Stone is an excellent way of learning a language. It does not define anything for you; you need to figure out each word's meaning by using it. Rosetta Stone gives you a phrase and has you click on the right picture. Unfortunately, Rosetta Stone often has errors. Sometimes, on startup, it will show an error message; sometimes it has trouble with its speech recognition. The worst thing about Rosetta Stone is starting up speech recognition. It has you say, "1,2,3,4,5", but it takes forever before it recognizes that you said it correctly. Then, when going through the lesson, it marks you correct with very little effort on your part. Working like a Charm It is working better than I could have ever hoped. I expected to have a lot more trouble picking up and understanding a new language. The indepth coverage of all aspects of the language, and the progressive learning style have made this an enjoyable learning experiance. November 29, 2012
Creative Learning I have enjoyed my Rosetta experience so far. I love that it stimulates my mind through the basic use of logic to learn the language. One would imagine it to be difficult to learn a new language without any translations. But the pictures and situations shown are usually very descriptive - just like it would be in real life for someone learning a language. I am also impressed by the options in games and tutorial sessions at my disposal. I feel like I can get some attention while learning. Some of the teachers are very interactive. Thanks Rosetta Stone! Very difficult to interpet the photos I'm having a very difficult time trying to figure out what the photos are suppose to mean. How am I to know when you throw in a number ? why aren't there English translations ? so I know what the photos are showing me? I really hate the coarse and will be returning it for a refund November 28, 2012
Great Way To Learn This product is a good way to learn basic Mandarin. Levels 1-3 are great; you can understand what they are trying to say with the pictures. I learned more Mandarin in a year or two than I did after ten years of my mother teaching me at home. However, I am now in level 4, and since the concepts are more complex, it can be difficult to understand the message being conveyed. I often have to ask my mother what is being said, and I can't imagine how I would learn if I didn't have a native speaker at home. Also, once I started level 4, I started having problems with the speech recognition. Sometimes I say the same thing three times in a row, and it marks it wrong the first two times, but accepts it the third. This product was great for the first three levels, but after that you may want to switch to something else. November 28, 2012
Overcoming your Language Barrier If you have ever wanted to learn a language and it just seems like an unattainable goal, Rosetta Stone wipes those doubts away. I have used Rosetta Stone China, which to me had seemed like an incredibly difficult language, but the way Rosetta Stone teaches a language, it is now clear that it does not matter what language your trying to learn because Rosetta Stone puts them all on the same playing field. Rosetta Stone uses a highly successful learning system that will allow anyone to be successful in learning a new language. You will find yourself saying new words throughout the day that you have learned, because the way that it is taught makes it very difficult to forget. I recommend Rosetta Stone very highly. Good Start The Rosetta Stone programs are a great start to learning a new language. While you will not be fluent at the end of the five levels, you will have a better understanding of the language in a shorter period of time than from a traditional learning environment. November 28, 2012
Great product! I placed my daughter in the school she is in because of the Chinese language program that they have, but quite frankly she has learned more using Rosetta Stone. The interaction with her teacher in class has become more of a supplement to her Rosetta Stone learning and she has far surpassed her classmates in this subject. I started learning Chinese simply because, like many Americans, learning a second language was on my bucket list. I also thought it would be something fun my daughter and I could do together. China is becoming such an important country in our world economy that I decided it was important for my kids to learn it. And it’s a cute way for us to have little inside jokes that no one else understands. Also, this year we are hosting a foreign exchange student from China, and practicing our Chinese with her has been a great way for us to learn more about each other. The experience of learning Chinese in Rosetta Stone’s unique way has been such a great bonding experience for my whole family. We are broadening our horizons, our minds, and drawing closer together to as a family. I would recommend Rosetta Stone to anyone. November 28, 2012
Great Experience After talking several language courses, I learned faster with Rosetta Stone than with any professional course. Hearing a native speaker while seeing a picture and the written sentence is the only way to go. Rosetta Stone is fun and I enjoy it with my two homeschool boys. November 28, 2012
Making solid progress I am sorry I waited so long to begin using Rosetta Stone. A few years back I started in an effort to learn Mandarin for personal and professional reasons. There were many starts and stops. A good friend who teaches ESL suggested I get Rosetta Stone. I am sorry I waited so long to take her advice. Finally I have found a course that teaches the way I learn. I tend to be a strong visual learner and an older one at that. My friends tell me my tones have improved greatly. And I am much more confident in speaking with native speakers. Although you must commit to spend the time, Rosetta Stone is a program that I think can help anyone make great progress in learning a new language. November 28, 2012
Love the totalE app I really like my totalE app. I used it often when I am waiting in a store, etc. The thing I like most about it is that it's not flash cards. It uses vocabulary in sentences. Using words in context is absolutely necessary to truly learn and remember new vocabulary. I also love just working off line on my computer at home. It's available anytime I have time and I'm excited about starting levels 4 and 5 this week. I highly recommend Rosetta Stone. November 28, 2012
It's pretty awesome It's a pretty decent product, it's great for going at your own pace. The way they build you up so that you can speak simple sentences and pronunciate the words, it's great. The games can also help you practice listening to sentences and words you have learn. The only thing negative I would have to say about it is the fact that there isn't many oppurtunities to speak to a native speaker to practice the language. Other than that Rosetta stone is a great way to learn a language at your own pace and practice with others who are on your level and learning the same things you are. I really reccommend it if you are committed to learning a foreign language. March 6, 2012
