Student Management System

Every Rosetta Stone Homeschool Version 2 Language program includes the Student Management System (SMS). The SMS allows parents to lesson plan, follow student progress and generate reports.

Lesson Planning

For many homeschooling parents, teaching a foreign language is a daunting task. Lesson planning can be difficult because many parents have never taught a foreign language course, and often times they do not speak the language the student is learning. Rosetta Stone® makes lesson planning easy because parents can create their own lesson plan or choose from two preloaded lesson plans. A simple setup wizard will help parents create student user names and passwords and enroll them into their desired lesson plan. The two lesson plans are as follows:

Comprehensive Lesson Track

Parents wishing to use Rosetta Stone as the core foreign language curriculum for their students may want to use the Comprehensive Lesson Track. This lesson track provides thorough instruction in Rosetta Stone content, guiding students through seven exercises and three tests in each lesson.

Accelerated Lesson Track

This lesson plan is intended for the student who wants to advance more quickly through the program, but still wants to have instruction in all language skills. The Accelerated Lesson Track contains four exercises and two tests per lesson

Testing

All testing is done on the computer with Rosetta Stone. Within the lesson plans, students automatically advance from exercise to tests. Once a student reaches a test, they must achieve a certain predetermined proficiency level on that test, 85% for example, in order to move on. If the student does not achieve that level, they must test again until that level is achieved.

Parents can adjust the proficiency levels set in the lesson plans to meet learning goals in both the Accelerated and Comprehensive tracks. Parents also have the ability to set proficiency levels when building their own lesson plans.

Reporting

The Student Management System gives parents the ability to view, print and export student results. Parents can create a report for one or multiple students. Information available in this report includes:

  • Student's current lesson track
  • Completed lessons
  • Test scores
  • Time on task
  • Status of lesson based on proficiency level achieved
  • Date and time exercises were completed

More information regarding lesson planning, testing, and reporting as well as sample schedules and cultural activities can be found in the Handbook for Teachers Homeschool Edition included with every Rosetta Stone Homeschool Version 2.

About Dutch

More than 20 million people speak Dutch as their native language. It is the official language of the Netherlands and its overseas territories, and is one of the official languages of Belgium, Suriname, and the European Union. Dutch speakers can also communicate with over 5 million speakers of Afrikaans, a daughter language of Dutch, spoken in South Africa and Namibia.

Dutch Learning Tips

  • Dutch pronunciation and spelling follow logical patterns.
  • In Dutch, a system of accent marks determines the pronunciation of certain letters. Rosetta Stone teaches you how to read these letters correctly.
  • There are two main categories of Dutch nouns, common and neuter. Common nouns consist of feminine and masculine words.
  • Almost all Dutch nouns can be turned into a diminutive, a word that denotes smallness, by adding a ‘-je’ ending.
  • Dutch has strict rules for the positions of verbs, subjects, and objects. These rules determine when the subject is positioned before or after the verb.
  • Dutch has both formal and informal ways to address others, depending on the age of the speaker and the relationship to the person being addressed.
