Dec 03, 2007: Rosetta Stone
ARLINGTON, Va. (Dec. 3, 2007) — Rosetta Stone Inc., creator of the No. 1 language-learning software, has leveraged its revolutionary language-learning platform to offer a military-specific program: Arabic - Military Edition.
The U.S. Army is the first military organization to offer the new product to its members. It has made Rosetta Stone Arabic - Military Edition available to the 1.4 million active Army, Army Reserve, Army National Guard and Army civilian personnel through Army e-Learning as part of the language learning program offered under the Army’s $4.2 million contract with Rosetta Stone Inc.
"Rosetta Stone is an effective, quality training tool that allows soldiers, leaders and Army civilians to learn a critical foreign language necessary in today's complex operational environment,” says Colonel Lawrence B. Smith, Chief, Institutional Training, HQDA G-3/5/7. “We are very pleased to see the addition of the new Arabic - Military Edition, which will give soldiers key vocabulary and phrases relating to military operations."
With more than 40,000 soldiers actively learning Arabic through Rosetta Stone on Army e-Learning, the addition of Arabic - Military Edition provides soldiers a tool to prepare quickly for deployment.
The new Arabic - Military Edition includes customized content and focuses heavily on rapidly building speaking and listening skills. Using proprietary speech recognition technology, guided pronunciation exercises, and simulated dialog, it is designed to quickly provide soldiers with the fundamental language skills needed to communicate once deployed. The Rosetta Stone intuitive user interface, military-specific content, and revolutionary speech recognition technology speed the language-learning process so learners can speak Arabic spontaneously and effectively in real-life military situations.
"Rosetta Stone is dedicated to helping the military meet its language-learning needs," says Tom Adams, chief executive officer. "Language is such a critical skill for today’s military. Using our revolutionary language-learning technology to make a difference in soldiers’ lives was a natural evolution of our software. Rosetta Stone dramatically reduces time to train for deployment at a fraction of the cost of traditional training."
The Fastest Way to Learn a New Language
With its proven method, innovative versatile instruction and clever, easy-to-use program, Rosetta Stone creates an effective and engaging learning environment. Language learners develop everyday proficiency naturally, the same way people learn their first language – by linking new words to real-world objects and events.
The Rosetta Stone Dynamic ImmersionTM method immediately teaches learners to think in a new language by connecting words with vivid imagery in real-life contexts to convey meaning. Learners are tested on new language knowledge at optimal intervals to ensure efficient retention. Life-like simulations provide the context learners need to produce completely new spoken or written language. Learners acquire reading and writing skills by associating letters and words with their new sound and meanings. They become proficient in understanding the new language through exposure to native speakers and meaning derived from relevant context. Instant feedback is provided within a carefully sequenced structure to ensure learning success.
